With autoinjectors, the patient actuates the needle and subsequent flow of medication solely through the application of pressure on the injection site. An autoinjector is typically used in cases where medication is needed immediately but infrequently such as the EpiPen ®. Although autoinjectors and pen injectors serve the same purpose, they are used in different medical scenarios.
